ART MIDDLE EAST Presents: How Have International Initiatives Affected Contemporary Middle Eastern Art? Part II

Biennials, museum acquisitions and exhibitions, artist prizes, and public and
private art commissions by institutions around the world have put a spotlight on Contemporary art from the Middle East. Nazy Nazhand, Founder of ART MIDDLE EAST, presents a discussion on the impact of these initiatives and how they
have reinterpreted and reframed our perception of Middle Eastern art. Panelists include Dr. Linda Komaroff (Curator of Islamic Art, LACMA), Leila Taghinia-Milani Heller (Leila Heller Gallery, New York), artists Asad Faulwell and Firooz Zahedi, and Leila Khastoo (independent curator). Moderated by art writer and curator Yasmine Mohseni. The second in a series of panels highlighting
the dynamic emergence of Middle Eastern contemporary art, this session is
a curator-led talk. Part I, an artist-led discussion was introduced at the
2010 Armory Show.
